Monthly Wrap-up: January

I haven’t read as much as I planned to this month, but sometimes that’s how it goes! It was still a good month!

What I’ve Been Reading

The Full Moon Coffee Shop: Completed. I loved it! It had a great atmosphere and was a great read to start off the year! If you’d like to know my thoughts, you can find my review here.

Crooked Kingdom: I’m about 80% through this book and I’m really enjoying it! The characters are great and Bardugo does not hold back punches! I’ll be posting a duology review in a couple of weeks.

Guide to How to Write: I like to have a writing book on the go, and every once in a while I like to go back to basics. So far, this books is really interesting and seems to be taking a slightly different view than I’ve seen before. I’m looking forward to learning more!

Writing Updates

I’ve been focusing on planning, reading, and fostering a writing community around me. I’m still building on these, so will give updates when I have more updates.

Cosy Updates

Baldur’s Gate 3

John and I played through Divinity 2 with some close friends, and it was so much fun! There are things that we still joke about today. We’ve started playing Baldur’s Gate 3 and the mechanics are a bit different, but it has still been a lot of fun! I’m playing a Wood Elf Cleric.

It Takes Two

John and I started this game ages ago but then never finished. We started a new game recently and have played through most of it! This a co-op game and is so much fun to play. The game mechanics change often, there are lots of puzzles to figure out, and so many additional worldbuilding touches! My favourite is the spa 💁‍♀️ It’s a wonderfully charming game.

The Traitors

I’ve been hearing a lot about the T.V. show The Traitors. I started watching it from season 1, and then John joined me and we’ve just started season 2! It feels like the game Werewolf – there are the Faithful and the Traitors. There are fewer Traitors and the point of the game is for the Faithful to find all of the Traitors to with a prize pot at the end of the show. The Traitors want to stay in the game until the end, because if they’re still in when the game ends, then they will win all of the money.

I do wish there were more ways for The Faithful to find Traitors, as a lot of the time it how people feel about others (which is interesting, but can also be frustrating!).

Filofax and a Day in Birmingham

On a table, a computer keyboard is visible in the top left and an open pencil case with a highlighter falling out.

In the center is a filofax. It is about novel size and has stripes and a clip to close it with "make it happen" on the cover.

I went into Birmingham to meet up with a friend. It was great to catch-up and talk about our writing plans. I also purchased a Filofax – something I’ve been thinking about for years. I’m so glad I took the plunge, and have been planning content and writing/reading. If you have any suggestions for planning or using a Filofax, please let me know below!

Writing Plans

I’m still working to gain confidence and routine by regularly posting on this blog and reading books on writing. I’ve got plans to meet up with a couple of people this month and it will be great to keep motivated and accountable!

I’m starting to focus on what I’m doing, instead of doing a bit of everything! I know I’m not going to read all of the books I’ve planned to, but I’m glad that I have books to look forward to for the next couple of months!

Do you have any cosy plans for February? Please feel free to share!
